FAQ's > Transportation > What is the best way to get from the St. Thomas Airport to Cruz Bay?
Visitors to St. John fly into the Cyril E. King Airport (STT) on St. Thomas, USVI. Some first-time travelers to St John have made the mistake of flying into St Croix, having found a less expensive flight. Travel from St Croix to St John is inconvenient at best, adds considerable travel time and will add more to the cost of getting here than was saved on airfare. St Thomas is the best, most convenient point of entry when traveling to St John.
Depending on your preferred mode of travel and what time you arrive at the airport, there are a variety of ways to get to Concordia. The first step is to get to the island of St. John. Some repeat guests rent a vehicle at the airport, drive to the Redhook Ferry Terminal and take the car-barge to St John. If this is your plan, be advised that the last trip for the car-barge leaves St Thomas at 6:00 p.m. Also, should you need to have your vehicle serviced for any reason, it is difficult to get St Thomas Rentals serviced on St John.
We recommend taking the passenger ferry to St John and using the taxi or renting a vehicle here. The last Passenger Ferry leaves St Thomas at mid-night, the taxis can be arranged to meet you and most rental companies on St John will make arrangements with you about a latepick-up of your car.
If you are renting a vehicle on either island, remember to book it at the same time you book your stay and airfare. Last minute, rental options can be few to none.
When you arrive at the Cyril E. King Airport (STT) you will be on the west end of the island of St. Thomas. Once you have collected your luggage, exit the building and you will find the Taxis waiting to take you to the Ferry Terminal at Redhook, on the east end of the island. After greeting him, let the Concierge know you are traveling to St John; he will put you into the appropriate taxi. Taxi fares are set and there is a charge per bag for large luggage. Carry cash in small denominations for this portion of your journey to cover taxi shuttle, tips, and ferry tickets. Porters are available for hire at both ferry docks. It is customary to tip a dollar or two to anyone who helps you with your luggage. Five dollars for a pile of luggage will make you a friend for life.
You will arrive on St. John at the Cruz Bay Dock. Cruz Bay is on the northwest corner of St John and you will need to travel to the southeast end of the island to reach Concordia Eco-Resort. See FAQ'S : Do I need to rent a vehicle. to learn about your travel options.
